The Eurotransplant Board of Management, Dr. Andre Matera, general director, Dr. Erwin de Buijzer, medical director and the Chair of the Supervisory Board, Prof. Dr. Dirk van Raemdonck visited the newest Eurotransplant member state, Hungary, on November 17, 2025.
They met in person with the national and procurement coordinators of the Organ Coordination Office, which is the main contact point for our collaboration. Then they visited the newest Hungarian transplantation center of the Semmelweis University, Department of Chest Surgery, based in the National Institute of Oncology, which is responsible for lung transplantation.
During the afternoon session, they visited the State Secretary for Health in the Ministry of Interior to present Eurotransplant’s structure, allocation system, vision, mission, and strategy.
The meeting was led by Dr. Péter Takács, State Secretary for Health, and Judit Bidló, Deputy State Secretary, where all seven Hungarian transplantation center leaders or representatives also attended, beside the HNBTS Director of Transplantation.
These whole-day meetings helped Eurotransplant leaders better understand the Hungarian legislative framework, structure, and our centralized donor coordination system.
Together we are stronger to further develop this international organ exchange network for the benefit of our waitlisted patients in need of life-saving transplant.
